Recognizing the importance of regional cooperation in the field of Environmental Compliance and Enforcement. The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan organized a regional meeting in 2009 at the Dead Sea that resulted in the launch of the Arab Network for Environmental Compliance and Enforcement (ANECE).
Keynote speakers joined officials from the Ministries of Environment, environmental enforcement agencies, and the judiciary from Jordan, Yemen, Lebanon, Libya, Egypt and Morocco; observers from INECE, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), the Environment Agency for England and Wales, the Network for Environmental Compliance and Enforcement in the Maghreb (NECEMA), the European Network for Implementation and Enforcement of Environmental Law (IMPEL), the Environmental Compliance and Enforcement Network for Accession (ECENA), and diplomats and development organizations from the Netherlands and the United States.
Participants discussed and agreed upon cooperation in the field of environmental governance in the Arab region and the established informal Arab Network for Environmental Compliance and Enforcement.
The outcomes from the meeting include the “Dead Sea-Jordan Statement.”
