East Africa
The East African Network for Environmental Compliance and Enforcement (EANECE) is a regional network of government agencies which have in their mandate environmental management, compliance and enforcement responsibilities in the East African nations of Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi. The mission of EANECE is to promote the rule of law, good environmental governance and sustainable development in East Africa through efficient and effective implementation and enforcement of environmental requirements.
The Network was founded during the Launching Conference of the East African Network for Environmental Compliance and Enforcement on 6-7 May 2010 at the United Nations Gigiri Complex, Nairobi, Kenya. At the Launching Conference, the five East African nations through their respective national environmental management agencies agreed upon and signed a Charter establishing the Network.
The proposal for EANECE builds on commitments to explore opportunities for regional networking in Africa made during INECE’s 8th International Conference held in April 2008 in Cape Town, South Africa.
National Environmental Compliance and Enforcement Networks have been launched in:
- Kenya
- Tanzania
- Uganda
